Here are the first track results of the new season. Here's how they work. The 1500m had handicapped starts; the watch was started and people set off at different times after that depending on their age and gender. The Time+Hcp value is the time on the watch when they finished. The Time value is how long they took to run the 1500m. Points are awarded depending on how they were ranked on Time+Hcp. This means that although Jon was 16 seconds faster than Gareth, he was beaten on handicap because Gareth started 24 seconds earlier because of his great age. In the 400m the runners all started at the same time and the times are adjusted afterwards to the equivalent times for a 25 year old running at the same standard. Points are awarded depending on how people were ranked on the adjusted time. At the end of the season the person with the most points will get the Harwell Track Trophy to keep for a year. 1500m 400m Competitor Time + H'cap Time Points Time Adj Time Points Susan Baigent 06:54.9 05:17.9 10 75.5 74.1 10 020 Gareth Smith 06:57.7 05:48.7 09 81.7 76.2 08 017 Jon Hyde 07:05.9 05:32.9 08 76.7 74.8 09 017 Helen Brackenbury 07:38.8 06:47.8 07 90.2 81.9 07 014 Peter Mansfield 07:45.6 06:55.6 06 92.2 84.1 06 012 Castel Fairlie 07:53.5 07:16.5 05 99.0 88.6 04 009 Gail Steer 08:00.6 07:39.6 04 100.8 88.1 05 009 Congratulations to Gail who set F50 world records in both events and Helen who set an F40 record in the 1500m.
